Hay everyone. The entire Summer has past since I last wrote a post. For that, I apologize. I was sitting here on the couch this morning and decided to take a look at the blog when I thought to myself, “Damn. When WAS the last time I wrote a post?” Though I knew it had been a while, I didn’t think it had been so long. I don’t even know where to begin to catch up.
I guess the two top things that kept me away for so long was the lack of a functioning computer. That makes it a bit difficult. And two, I was working all Summer. While the computer situation still isn’t ideal (I’m using an old desktop I had salvaged into a Plex server a year ago) the working has worked itself out.
If you’ve read this blog from the beginning, you know starting this blog was something I did after leaving a long career in restaurants. 20 years in a kitchen were finally starting to take it’s toll on me, and more importantly, my family. So I took some time off. But when a friend of mine that I’ve known since high school mentioned he needed some help at his restaurant with his kitchen staff I jumped in feet first.
So… after a few months there his crew is back on track without him having to resort to seven-day work weeks. He has a family of his own, so I get it. They are young, like mine. And it’s important to make time for school and sports and family. Him and his wife have a tremendous opportunity to relocate their business to a local Army base which will be fantastic in so many ways for them. And I’m glad I was able to help a friend when he needed it.
Also in that time I’ve done some freelancing. I’ve helped a couple people out setting up their own blogs and related issues. I’m currently designing a website for a gourmet pop-sickle shop in Baltimore as well as helping a local ministry out with some nasty PHP bug they got on 12 of their sites. So I haven’t been sitting on my laurels this whole time. The bills still have to be paid after all.
So with Summer behind me, I hope to begin a new season of writing these posts. I think I’ll go back to some of the how-to’s. They always seemed more of what you readers were looking for and I always got the most engagement from them. But now and then I do like to just write from the hip and have a conversation with you all.
So that’s where my Summer went. How about yours?
Welcome back. Glad to hear you were able to help a friend in the kitchen this summer without permanently getting back into it. 🙂
Thanks alot, Jennifer. However, it looks like I’m back into it after all! Explaining why this blog is suffering. But I’m getting to a point where I hope to be able to manage both. I’m actually working on a post tonight to get my readers up to speed on where I’ve been the last two months. Hope I haven’t lost them all.
It’s great to see you’re back! Sounds like you’re doing really well! It’s easy to get busy & sidetracked. Congrats on the side work! I wish I could get more into HTML & all that important stuff. I used to do better. But you are really inspiring! This post made me rethink my disdain. lol. You’re doing great. Keep it up! And thanks for the shout out 🙂
